Satellite access for PC-based computers located beyond the range of ADSL-enabled telephone exchanges. The service offers you high-speed, always-available, two-way Internet connections bundled with toll-quality telephone and fax services"
Overview
For the past few years, Interexcel offered satellite Internet connectivity via Telkom's VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) service. Growing weary of the frustrating limitations on their system, we were recently pleasantly surprised to discover another provider offering an improved VSAT service to ISPs (Internet Service Providers) which can provide up to 2 Mbps download speeds with reliable uptime across the whole of South Africa.
Their very competitively-priced packages provide reasonable speeds, are specifically structured according to the needs which they have identified in the market and are also suitable for VoIP (Voice over IP) communications.
As resellers of their service to the general public, Interexcel's VSAT offering will now be able to deliver the Internet to your doorstep, literally anywhere in South Africa. We believe that it would be ideal for game farms and lodges in remote areas where other forms of connectivity offer no suitable alternative.
What is VSAT ?
The Very Small Aperture Technology (VSAT) is a compact and cost effective satellite solution for Internet access. It consists of a small dish, which needs a clear unobstructed view to the southern sky. The satellite dish and the satellite indoor unit are connected via two standard coaxial cables. The antenna both sends requests to the Internet and receives Internet content via the satellite. Inside your home or company, the VSAT consists of a satellite indoor unit that attaches to your home or office PC through an Ethernet port. No telephone lines or dial-up accounts are needed.
Who should apply ?
The satellite service is positioned as a high-speed, always available asymmetrical access service. Satellite technology is the reliable solution for communities and businesses in areas where cable based telephone and Internet services are unavailable, unreliable or too expensive to install or maintain.
The service is intended for small to medium sized businesses and consumers that fall outside of Telkom's normal footprint. The service meets the needs of commercial farmers, cooperatives, holiday resorts, mining and other smaller businesses (cafes, restaurants, hardware stores, general stores) in rural areas requiring Internet access for ordering, confirming prices and other general information.
